Laurie Karlson, owner of Laurie Belle’s Boutique, appreciates her customers.
And, it’s not only for their support of her Tea business, but for their generous support of others.
“My shoppers are some of the greatest people on earth and are always willing to help and really giving and generous, especially when there are kids involved,” Karlson said.
On Giving Tuesday, Nov. 29, Laurie Belle’s offered its in-store and online customers the chance to donate $5 to Feeding South Dakota. Those that donated received a $10 gift card to Laurie Belle’s.
Through that drive, the boutique was able to donate 50 turkeys and was able to donate enough funds for 1,000 meals. After dropping the turkeys off the beginning of December, Karlson took a tour of the Feeding South Dakota facility in Sioux Falls.
“My goal is 10,000 meals by the end of December,” she said. “We are going to meet it. That’s what I’ve pledged.”
Laurie Belle’s is continuing the donate $5 to Feeding South Dakota and receive a $10 Laurie Belle’s gift card promotion through Dec. 31. However, the promotion will be in-store this time. Karlson said they will accept donations in amounts more than $5 to go toward Feeding South Dakota.
“So we can meet this goal I’ll match whatever people donate,” Karlson said.
She chose Feeding South Dakota because a college friend works for them and Karlson would see stories on her friend’s newsfeed on Facebook.
“The stories she tells about are just heart wrenching, but it’s also just intriguing to learn more about it,” she said. “I felt this is a good organization to focus on.”
Karlson wanted to donate turkeys earlier this month because the organization often struggles to get enough protein donated for people in need.
