A piece of history…Bakker family farmland sold

September 15th, 2017 cars lined the long gravel driveway and were parked across the road for an auction on the farm located at 27050 Sundowner (470th) Ave., Tea, SD. The auction was a bittersweet moment for the Bakker family. Cliff Bakker and his sister Nancy Nickel looked on as auctioneers spent the day awarding antiques to the highest bidders. Cliff said there had never been an auction on the property before, the farmland has been in the Bakker name since 1883, Cliff and Nancy were the fourth generation to live there.

The amount of items to auction were plentiful. Nancy said their parent’s hobby was going to auctions themselves.

The farmland sold Friday, but the house, built by their folks in about 1964 will be moved to Hartford, where Cliff plans to live. He had been living at the home place since his dad, Clarence passed away in January 2016; his mother Margaret had died in June of 2015.
