City of Tea to hold election Tuesday, April 10


The City of Tea will hold elections on April 10. The election polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., voting takes place at Tea City Hall, 600 E. 1st St.

The City of Tea election will take place April 10, 2018. Running for Mayor, at large, two year term, will be John Lawler (incumbent) and Douglas Putnam.

Questionnaires were sent to both candidates,

John Lawler holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Briar Cliff University. He and his wife, Michaele have lived in Tea since 1993. Their children, Mackenzie and Corbin, attended and graduated from Tea Area High School.

What kind of experience do you have that you feel qualifies you to be the Mayor of Tea?

I have been the Mayor of Tea for the past 16 years and served on the city council for four years prior to becoming mayor.

I have worked in the financial services industry for 20 years and own and manage an insurance and investment agency with my wife.

Douglas A. Putnam grew up in Letcher, a little town in South Dakota, and successfully owned and operated a small business. He was active in the fire department, local government, school, church and many things in the community. He said he helped out the county sheriff’s department.

What kind of experience that you have that you feel qualifies you to be mayor of Tea?

Problem solving and compromising to make things work for everyone. I have a desire to bring Tea to it’s full potential within the budget limitations. Being mayor is to do right for ALL of the citizens of Tea. I have been successful in business for 40 years.
