On Saturday morning of Teapot Days, more than 100 runners hit the pavement for Junior Achievement’s 2nd Annual Bacon Run.
Chair of the event, Amanda McKnelly, had seen a bacon run done in another community to raise funds and thought it would be fun, especially since they had a local bacon provider in Squealer’s.
“Everybody loves bacon. That’s why we chose to try it last year and it was a great success last year so we thought we’d keep doing it,” McKnelly said.
They started and finished at the Tea Athletic Complex. They used a new course this year to try to avoid spectators arriving for the parade and construction traffic.
“It was a new course this year so we tried not to cross First Street with the traffic,” she said. “I think they liked the location. They love having the reward afterward.”
Money raised from the race goes toward Junior Achievement programming in the Tea Area School District. Junior Achievement reached a thousand kids and about 43 classrooms this past school year.
