City and School reach agreement for use of the Venture Elementary gym

The Tea City Council met Aug. 17 and opened and closed the meeting with budget discussions for 2021.

The council also accepted the resignation of Rick Baker from the planning and zoning board. They approved Mike Mehlbrech to the park and rec board.

They approved the hiring of Alexi Miranda as a part-time police officer at $19.95 per hour.

The council approved an agreement between the city and the school district for use of the Venture Elementary gym. Gym use guidelines include using walking or gym shoes on the gym floor, no outside shoes, all scheduling for the gym goes through the district’s activities director, the city will be provided a key, Wednesday evenings and Sunday evenings will be adult activities only, Sunday afternoons can include students, but no formal practices and the cost share has the city will be responsible for a third of the floor maintenance.

The council held several public hearings. The first was a first reading of ordinance 280, an ordinance rezoning tract 1, Stuntebeck’s Addition from general business to natural resource conservation.

The second public hearing was a first reading of ordinance 281, an ordinance rezoning tract 5, Heritage Addition from agriculture/rural service district to single family residential (R1) and natural resource conservation.

The conditional use permit public hearing on a billboard was withdrawn by the landowner.

The side yard setback variance at 320 W. Ivy Road public hearing was to add on an attached garage. This property had been approved for a variance earlier this summer for a shed to be built. The property owner decided not to do the shed and is going for an attached garage instead. The variance was approved.

The council approved the conditional use permit for a daycare center at 815 Gateway Lane.

They approved the site plan for A-Z Properties for the Glass Doctor building in the Bakker Landing Addition. The plan is to construct an 11,200 square foot building in lot 1, block 2 of Bakker Landing First Addition.

They also approved the resolution authorizing the execution of contractual documents with the state for the receipt of CARES Act funds to address the COVID-19 public health crisis.
