City approves 14 liquor licenses

The Tea City Council met Nov. 6 and approved liquor licenses for 13 businesses.

The council approved the 2024 package off-sale liquor license renewals for Cubby’s, Fareway, Hy-Vee Dollar Fresh and both Casey’s General Stores.

They also approved the 2024 retail on-sale liquor licenses for American Legion Post 266 - Blau DeBoer Post #266, Squealer’s Smoke Shack, Double M LLC DBA Prairie View Event Hall, Boss’ Pizzeria & Sports Bar, Pals Pub and Sky Lounge.

The council approved the 2024 retail on-off sale wine and cider liquor licenses for Dolgen Midwest LLC DBA Dollar General Store, MG Oil Company DBA Jokerz 7 and G & T Gaming, Inc.

They approved the hiring of Dustin Demuth as a police officer at $31.04/hour.

The council approve the initial building design plans for Maker’s Exchange that will be located at 102 Venture Place in Bakker Landing. The building will be used for retail sales and has a barn-style look. Some commissioners expressed concern over the look that close to the interstate.

The council also approved the site plan and foundation building plans for Peter’s Strip Mall at 1930 E. Gateway Blvd. The building is about 6,930 square feet. The east unit is reserved for Pure Bliss Cannabis in a 2,310 square foot unit. Plans call for the entire parking lot to be paved with asphalt. Plans also call for a swale at the end of the I-29 Antiques lot to capture runoff.

The council reviewed the changes to the site plan for Madison Investment in the Southwest Industrial Park. This property is currently outside of city limits in the county. The county did not approve the original design after the city expressed their concerns over the look.

The company came back with a change to the roof style on the buildings that Madison Lawn Care will use as their headquarters and the remaining spaces will be contractor shops. They also added berms and trees. The council recommended approval to the county.

They also approved the plat for lot 1, block 13 in Heritage Addition and the DeBoer Showroom interior buildout at 108 Venture Place, Suite 400.

The council held a public hearing on a conditional use permit for an in-home daycare at 320 S. Prairie Ave. from Jovelyn Galvin. The plans to add a fence to the backyard and she is getting licensed by the state. They approved the CUP.

They also held a first reading of ordinance 311 to rezone lot 1, block 3 in Gateway Addition from rural service district/ag to general business district.

The council approved two resolutions. Resolution 23-11-07 is a resolution providing for a city-wide property drainage fee. The charges will collect a total of $100,000.

Resolution 23-11-08 is a resolution providing for an annual street maintenance assessment. The assessment remains the same as last year at $1.25 per foot.

The council approved a change order from Asphalt Surfacing Company in the Hagedorn Industrial Park for an additional $5,504.79.

They approved three pay applications. The first one was for the regionalization wastewater pump station and force main from Metro Construction for $423,602.19. The second was from Asphalt Surfacing Company for $258,024.71 in the Hagedorn Industrial Park. The third one was for James Avenue drainage from Metro Construction for $12,377.80.

The council went into executive session at 7:43 p.m.
