Tea Veterans Memorial Progress: Honoring Veterans beyond Veterans Day

Every year, on Nov. 11, Americans come together to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans Day allows us to express our gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who have dedicated their lives to defending our nation.

While the Tea Veterans Memorial will not be completed as hoped by Veterans Day this year, it’s never too late to reflect on the significance of this important day and the people it honors.

Last year, community members gathered to dedicate the Tea Veterans Memorial. This year, the committee was hopeful to have all the pavers placed by Nov. 11 and hold a paver dedication ceremony. Unfortunately, due to quality and shipping problems, the pavers will not be complete this year. Visitors may have noticed that some pavers were engraved and placed at the memorial in the last month. However, they do not meet the quality demanded to finish the project. The committee aims to ensure the pavers are perfect, as they are the crown jewel of the memorial. A new shipment of pavers is awaited, with hopes for completion and placement in the Spring of 2024.

“We understand the disappointment that can come from the memorial not being completed as expected to honor our local veterans this year. However, it’s essential to remember that honoring them doesn’t necessarily have to be confined to a specific date or time. Every day should be an opportunity to honor our heroes and ensure they receive the recognition they deserve,” Kristen Daggett, a member of the Veterans Memorial Committee, stated.

The committee would like to express gratitude to this wonderful community for its continued support and patience. Kristen Daggett encourages anyone with questions to reach out to her directly at 605-201-7886 or lkdaggett@gmail.com.

Veterans Day is a solemn and heartfelt occasion, allowing us to express deep gratitude for the men and women who have served in the U.S. military. It’s a time to remember their sacrifices, both seen and unseen, and to support them in their transition back to civilian life.

While the Tea Veterans Memorial may not be finished in time for this year’s Veterans Day, it’s essential to remember that the appreciation and support shown to veterans should extend far beyond a single day.
