Independent Publishing strives to create publications that provide a positive voice for the communities they serve in print and online. Our goal is to inform, educate and entertain our readers, and to promote area businesses through advertising and marketing services.
Advertising Policies:
Independent Publishing, L.L.C. reserves the right to edit, alter or omit any ad.
Independent Publishing, L.L.C. assumes no liability for typographical errors or for omissions of copy. Liability for errors or omissions shall not exceed the cost of the ad.
Independent Publishing, L.L.C. will not knowingly publish any advertisement for a product or service that is false, misleading, or where the advertiser intends to defraud or deceive the consumer.
Sponsored Content Policy:
Sponsored content is defined as produced by, or on behalf of, an organization or individual that has paid the news provider for production and/or approved publication. It does not meet the standards of impartial or independent journalism because a sponsor has been involved in production or review before publication. All Sponsored Content will include the top tagline "Sponsored Content," and a disclosure that reads: "This content was funded and approved by the advertiser."
Obituary Policies:
Obituaries are published free of charge if the person lived in the community in which the newspaper is published or if the surviving relative requests the obituary published and they are current subscribers. Obituaries may include one photo. Obituaries may be edited to fit space. Obituaries more than 500 words, and/or if the family requests any unusual layout, photos, or control over the over-all look, the obituary will be charged as display advertising.
Back issue policies:
We generally keep the current year issues on hand (subject to prior sale) for sale. Contact the office to request a specific edition and for postage and handling costs (typically $2 per paper + cost of paper). Older editions are available for review at the City Library. Any research requests made to our offices will be done at the charge of $30 per hour.
Letter to the Editor policies:
We welcome public opinion through signed letters to the editor. Letters may be edited to remove libelous material or to fit space limitations. Letters must be signed and include a phone number that may be used to speak with the writer of the letter. A suggested word count of 250 words or less is encouraged.
Only letters from local residents will be published, unless the topic of the letter has significant local interest. All letters must be written in good taste. Libelous or defamatory letters directed at an individual, business or private enterprise will not be published.
Letters of appreciation or announcements will be published based on individual merit. Independent Publishing, L.L.C. has the right to refuse election-related letters during political campaigns.
