Legion announces scholarship program
The proceeds of the Tea American Legion’s monthly breakfast will now go toward annual scholarships for two graduating Tea Area seniors, the Legion announced last week.
A monthly breakfast is hosted, typically on the second Sunday of each month from September through April, at the Legion building from 9 a.m. to noon or 1 o’clock at a cost of $5 adults, $2 for kids aged five to 12 year olds and free four children under age four. The December breakfast will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. as children visit with Santa.
The Legion already awards medals to one female and one male graduating senior each year who exemplify certain upstanding citizenship characteristics, as outlined in the American Legion School Award Program criteria guidelines.
Beginning this year, in addition to the medal, the chosen students will now also receive scholarships, amounting to at least $250 each. “We are always looking for ways to give back to the community and are very excited to begin this annual scholarship fund,” said the Tea Legion’s Americanism Officer, Kyle Huinker.
