2014 building permits reach 5-year high

Boost credited to multi-family residential construction

Building permits reached a five-year high last year, largely thanks to the number of multi-family residential projects that sought permits in 2014, Planning and Zoning Administrator Kevin Nissen shared with the Tea City Council at their Monday evening meeting.

The year saw a total of 195 permits issued with a combined construction value of over $15.3 million, according to data released by the city’s planning and zoning department. Single family residential projects amounted to nearly $3.4 million and multi-family residential soared to just under $7.3 million, compared to zero for the previous two years. Basement-finishing permits amount to about $750,000 and garages and other home additions totaled just over $42,000.
