Local District 6 legislators, Senator Ernie Otten, Rep. Herman Otten and Rep. Isaac Latterell, met with a small group of constituents gathered at Tea City Hall last Saturday, Feb. 7 for the annual Legislative Coffee meeting.

During the hour-long session, much of the discussion centered on education reform. “We are at a crossroads in education,” said Sen. Otten. “It either needs to be tweaked or lit on fire, and there is no way of tweaking it.”

Sen. Otten said the groundwork is being laid for education fixes to be a key topic during next year’s legislative session. Among the items being examined for change are teacher pay, high quality education for all students that will result in “high outcomes” and a reworking of the state’s funding formula for schools.
