Tea’s Ensz a top finisher at art competition

Alexa Ensz, a Tea Area High School junior, is the proud recipient of three new awards for her artwork. Ensz entered three pieces in the South Dakota High School Activities Association’s first Visual Art Competition last weekend. The contest was open to all ninth through twelfth grade students in the state. Artists from at least 33 schools participated. Their work was split among three divisions, A, AA and B, and displayed during the state basketball tournament at the Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls from March 19-21.

Ensz was awarded first place for her portrait of fire-haired singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, completed with colored pencils. Her black and white chalk pastel depiction of Louis Zamperini, a U.S. Olympian and survivor of World War II prisoner of war camps, was also a first-place finisher. Ensz’ mixed media piece titled An Open Book earned a third place award.
