Tea elementary schools receive new names
At their Monday meeting, the Tea Area School Board made final decisions for new names for both of the district’s elementary schools. The existing school will now be known as Tea Area Legacy Elementary, located at 500 W. Charish Street in Tea, and the new school at 2700 S. Lancaster Drive in Sioux Falls will be known as the Tea Area Frontier Elementary.
Members of the naming committee included: Dick and Alma Gors, Kristi Nelson, Margaret Larsen, Tonia Warzecha, Kristy Clark, Dawn Preheim, Holly Peterson, Nikki Wilken, Betsy Drew, Joe Weiss, Lori Grove, and Kristen Daggett.
After receiving input from the community, the naming committee had whittled the list of potential names down to six possibilities — Frontier, Heritage, Legacy, Pioneer, Venture and Voyager. Legacy was the clear frontrunner and Frontier was the second pick. Heritage was removed from the list but could still be considered for future use if the district builds a school along Heritage Parkway. The other names will remain in a pool for future consideration for new Tea Area schools.
