Building fees instated for new nonprofit projects

The Tea City Council officially welcomed Jessica Quigley to the role of chief of the Tea Police Department at their Monday meeting. She has served as an officer with the department since May 2008. The council made the promotion retroactive to the date Quigley accepted the role, May 19.

Discussion on possible changes to the city’s building permit fee policies wrapped up with a review of the city’s recent building permit applications.

The city’s ongoing policy has been to waive building permit charges and water and sewer hookup fees for nonprofit organizations, including schools and churches.

The most recent church project, the St. Nicholas Church addition, had a building permit fee of $3,795.50 waived.

The Tea Area School District’s most recent building plan, a 23,000 square foot addition to Tea Area Legacy Elementary, had a building permit fee of $8,349 and water and sewer hookup fees of $2,500 each.
