Fowlds named HuntSAFE Instructor of the Year

Fowlds will help host GFP's Step Outside program at Tea City Park today

Brian Fowlds of Tea has been named the 2014 Statewide HuntSAFE Instructor of the Year. Fowlds, member of the Tea City Council, is also an avid outdoorsman. About four years ago, he set out on a mission to find a way to share that passion with the town’s young people. He contacted the county’s conservation officer for information on getting more outdoor programs started in Tea and was told the first step was having a certified instructor in the area. So he became one.

In addition to his involvement in the HuntSAFE program, Fowlds has also been active in cultivating another outdoor sportsmanship program for the community.

The state’s Game, Fish and Parks department partners with communities to hold Step Outside events, where kids can learn about and practice archery, fishing, outdoor cooking, BB guns and more.

The next Step Outside event will be held at the Tea City Park today, Saturday, June 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and there is no cost to attend.
