Feedback sought on proposed sidewalk maintenance fee

In the summer of 2013, the city began a sidewalk inspection program to identify and repair damaged sections. The town was broken into five quadrants, with one section to be reviewed annually for the next five years. The inspections would then begin again so that every section would be examined and repaired once every five years as necessary.

With the second quadrant up for review this year and repairs still needed on the first, the program, now in its third year, is already behind and could take a decade to finish just the first round.

There are two recurring issues that have proved problematic so far, Mayor John Lawler explained at Monday’s city council meeting.
