Council approves building plans for Elite Rentals

The Tea City Council met Sept. 8 and heard a lot about zoning planning from zoning administrator Kevin Nissen and city engineer Jason Kjenstad of HDR Engineering.

Planning and zoning recommended the approval for annexation for Schwartzle Construction for five lots in the Howeling Ridge Addition. Mayor John Lawler said they expect Schwartzle to keep the weeds down in that area. The council approved the annexation.

The council approved the plat of tract 1, Hackrott Addition at 470th Avenue and 274th Street that includes a housing eligibility. They also approved a plat for tract 18, Landmark Industrial Park addition.

City council members approved the building site plan and building plans for Elite Rentals that include plans to build an 11,700 square foot building. The property is zoned light industrial.

After much discussion from Kjenstad and Nissen about preliminary plans for Goldammer Addition at Highway 106 and Katie Avenue, the council approved those as well. Much of the discussion focused around the currently non-existent Katie Avenue and where the right of way will be located. More discussion will be coming in the next couple of meetings. The property will be zoned commercial.

Kjenstad updated the council on High Pointe Street construction. The plan started in 2008. He said they are looking at reprofiling the road to bring it up 1.4 feet and that will allow them to bring up the storm sewer.

Kjenstad said he has been meeting with a group involving the county, city of Tea and city of Sioux Falls about the future of 85th Street. As a group, they are trying to put together a map of what is required for each group involved. The hope of the group is to have the bare minimum requirements for a street coming off an interchange at Interstate 29 and 85th Street by 2020.
