Put the brakes on breast cancer
J&M Transmission and Auto Service, along with Avera Cancer Institute, are putting the brakes on breast cancer in October.
Through its promotion, “Put the Brakes on Breast Cancer,” J&M is offering free brake pads, valued at $79. Customers pay for the labor and any other parts the vehicle may require and 10 percent of all brake services will be donated to the Avera Cancer Institute in Sioux Falls.
Co-owner Mary Ellen Heirigs said partnering with the Avera Cancer Institute will help patients during a difficult time in their lives.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s breast cancer or not, it takes a toll on your body,” Heirigs said. “I just thought it was a great opportunity to really work together to help families in their time of need.”
While no one in Heirigs’ immediate family has cancer, her grandmother and sister died of ovarian cancer and her mother died of lung cancer. One of their staff members has a niece who was diagnosed with cancer at 2 years old.
