Tea family cooks up success

The thought of starting a restaurant led to the beginning of Squealer’s Smoke Shack.

“We always talked about doing something restaurant and came across this and figured we’d start here,” said Dustin Kuipers, owner (pictured above).

In business for two years out of Tea, Kuipers said his wife, sister and parents all take part in the business. His four kids, ages 18 months to 6 years, also like to help.

During the summer months, Kuipers takes their smoke shack to different events in the region every weekend. During the winter months, they cater and take smoked meat orders.

Kuipers, who always enjoyed trying different things when cooking, said some of the events they went to this summer were Tea Pot Days, Fourth of July in Lennox, King Turkey Days in Worthington, Minn., Brown County Fair in New Ulm, Minn., Strawbale Winery in Renner and Automania in Brandon.

In addition to events, they also cater weddings, private parties, Christmas parties and business events.
