FCCLA students travel to Texas for cluster meeting

Seven members of the Tea Area Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter and their adviser Heather Herman made their way to Dallas, Texas, in November.

MiKayla Rentsch, McKenna Rentsch, Gabrielle Warwick, Kayla Johnson, Jaeya Jones, Brynn Parmelee and Jaylee Sehr, all eighth-graders through seniors at Tea Area, attended the cluster meeting at the Omni Hotel in Dallas Nov. 20-22. The Tea Area chapter left Nov. 18 ahead of the snow with other chapters from South Dakota on three charter buses.

Johnson said she attended a seminar about giving. The speaker there had traveled to Guatemala to visit a friend. While there, his wife learned about bracelets made in the country and brought them back to sell in the U.S. to benefit kids in Guatemala. Johnson said she is going to try to do that project for her STAR project.

Herman said they are in the process of filling out the paperwork for that project and hope to begin selling them after the first of the year.

Johnson said they learned about drunk driving and team building also.

“We got a lot of the team building activities for our chapter and they taught me how to talk in front of people,” Johnson said.
