City council approves purchase of bleachers, press box

The Tea City Council met Feb. 16 and approved the purchase of new bleachers and a press box for the Athletic Complex.

The council approved the quote from Kay Park Recreation of Iowa. The original bid is for $29,184.50. However, planning and zoning administrator Kevin Nissen said the price would likely go down a little because the press box will be assembled on site but could increase a little by picking the elevated bleachers option.

The council approved the minutes from the last meeting and the warrants. They scratched the scoreboard discussion from the agenda.

Tea citizen Rob Maier spoke to the council about two tickets he received during the storm Feb. 2. A snow alert was issued from 3 p.m. to 8 a.m. Maier had two vehicles ticketed at $25 each at noon that day and then they were towed by the time he returned from work. Councilor Brian Fowlds was sympathetic but was concerned that if they waive these tickets then everybody will want a break.

The council took no action so the tickets will stand.

Rob Hoffman with the Tempo Soccer Club spoke to the council about a soccer tournament in May in Tea. Last year they had to move part of it to Brandon and that cut down on their numbers. With the hotel in town, Hoffman said teams would be looking to stay in Tea.
