Summer classes keep kids moving
Whether your child needs to work off excess energy, get moving or make new friends, summer fun and fitness go hand and hand at Fitness First.
Owned by Troy Johnson and Austin Vanhove, the Tea gym is offering two programs through August 5: Kids on the Move, for grades 2-6, and Bigger, Stronger, Faster for middle-schoolers.
“It helps kids feel better about themselves and gives them confidence,” Vanhove said.
Kids on the Move focuses on activity. In addition to games, the program walks youngsters through form running, push-ups and pull-ups, lunges and agility drills.
Classes are 8 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Bigger, Stronger, Faster incorporates strength-training, speed, agility, stretching, mobility and proper form.
Classes are Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.
Fitness First has offered summer youth programs in the past at the gym, located at 510 Figzel Court, just north of Sunshine Foods.
“We’ve seen kids have more success in their fall sports programs,” Johnson said. “It gets them out of the house, off TV and video games, and gives them a chance to hang out with their friends over the summer.”
