#1 in the State: Titans hand Madison first loss of season

Making history—that has been the theme of the sport scene at Tea Area High School this year. First, history was made by the boys golf team as they claimed the school’s first State Championship title. Now the Titan football team is also making a name for themselves in the Titan history books—becoming the first team to open the season 8-0 and for the first time in school history, the Titans are ranked number one in the State.

The number one ranking was earned last Friday night, Oct. 14 as the Titans went to Madison and defeated the defending State Champions—Madison Bulldogs. It was a battle of the unbeatens with neither team wanting to suffer their first loss of the season. The Bulldogs flexed their muscles first, scoring quick and often. Madison scored twice in the first quarter, once on a four yard pass from Josh Giles to Jaxon Janke and again on two pass from Giles to Marcus Vandebosch. Madison had built a 13-0 lead going into the second quarter.

The Bulldogs continued to tack on points, scoring on a Jadon Janke 51 yard run and again on a 23 yard run by Jadon Janke. This gave Madison a 25-0 lead, with just over four minutes to play before half.

Enter the Tea Area Titans.

The Titans went on to score 28 unanswered points, scoring twice in the second and once in both the third and fourth quarters. In the second quarter, the Titans scoring drive was aided by a pass interference penalty called on Madison’s Jadon Janke. The drive continued and eventually led to a Payton Conrad touchdown pass to Evan Munkvold. Kade Stearns kicked through the extra point to pull the Titans within 18 points with just over a minute before half.

Madison fumbled on their next drive which was recovered by the Titan’s Nathan Ochsner at the Madison 30. This set up the Titans for another quick score as Conrad found Munkvold
