9-0 Titans perfect in regular season
By Anne Homan
A 47-24 win over Canton Thursday night, Oct. 20, gave the Tea Area High School football team an unprecedented 9-0 end to the regular season. This marked the first time in school history the Titans have finished the regular season undefeated.
After a sluggish start to the game against Canton, the Titans got things going in the second quarter scoring 21 points and another 14 in the third to grab the eventual 47-24 win.
The Titans’ quarterback, Payton Conrad, continued to be the leader on the field, passing for five touchdowns in the game and running in the other two scores.
Conrad’s first score came in the opening quarter as he found Evan Munkvold for the 74 yard touchdown pass. Canton answered back with a touchdown of their own, taking the 7-6 lead with their point after good and the two point conversion failing for the Titans.
Conrad and Munkvold connected again in the second quarter, this time for a six yard score. Kade Stearns kicked through the extra point to give the Titans the 13-7 lead.
Canton again answered back to regain the lead, 14-13 with nine minutes to play in the second. Tea, however, responded as Conrad found Adam Heien for the 78 yard touchdown. Stearns’ point after gave the Titans the 20-14 lead, a lead they would not give up for the remainder of the game.
