Tea Legion earns big wins over Lennox


On a blustery Tuesday evening, June 27, the Tea TinCaps hosted Lennox in Legion baseball action. Tea used a solid first inning to bring in five runs and never looked back, grabbing a 13-2 victory over Lennox.

Tea faced a 1-0 deficit after the first half of the opening inning, but Tea got to work quickly. In the bottom of the first, Dillon Cuppy singled off of Lennox’s Nick Kayl, driving in two runs as Nick Aeilts and Jacob Elkins both crossed home plate. Cole Barthel grounded out for Lennox but brought Austin Hofer home, giving Tea a 3-1 lead. Before inning’s end, Hunter Frankenstein advanced to first after being hit by a pitch which scored Cuppy as bases were loaded. Brendon Hone also got home before the start of the second inning as he scored on a passed ball. The inning ended on a strike-out.

Tea held Lennox scoreless in the top of the second as the TinCaps scored two more runs in the bottom of the inning.

Cuppy singled to bring in Nick Zabel and Hone singled to score Cuppy after he stole second.

In the third inning, Lennox once again failed to score as the TinCaps brought in three more runs to increase their lead to 10-1. Aeilts scored on a pass ball and Hofer hit a pop fly to score Zabel and Elkins.

In the fourth, Lennox’s scoring drought continued as Tea managed three more runs. Troy Ljunggren singled on a line drive to center field which brought Hone home. Zabel singled on a line drive, scoring Barthel and advancing Ljunggren to third. Ljunggren would score as Elkins hit a line drive out to second.

In the top of the fifth, Lennox had one final attempt to score a couple of runs to extend the game, however they managed just one run, ending the game and giving Tea the 13-2 victory.

On the mound for Tea was Cuppy who pitched all five innings. He allowed just two runs, three hits and recorded eight strike-outs.
