Brock Murphy named Region 2A Golf Champion: Titan boys’ golf team captures second at Regions

The entire team of the Tea Area High School boys golf team will be headed to State for the fourth straight year. The defending State A Champions earned second place at the Region 2A Golf Meet held at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion on Monday, Sept. 25.

Despite the wet, rainy weather Tea Area’s Brock Murphy was able to capture the Region 2A Individual title, winning with a score of 77. He shot a 41 on the front nine and 36 on the back to secure the win.

Tea Area’s Kolby Newborg took seventh at Regions with a score of 85, shooting a 39 on the front nine and a 46 on the back. Mason Schlunsen shot a 96 on the day (53, 43) to tie for 21st place. Cooper Leslie shot a 101 on the day (53, 48); and Eric Munson a 106 (56, 50).

As a team the Titans finished with a 359 to capture second place. Dakota Valley won the Region title with a score of 334. Elk Point Jefferson rounded out the top three with a 362. All three teams qualify for the State Meet.

The Class A State Golf Tournament will be held October 2-3 at the Dakota Dunes Country Club in Dakota Dunes. Play will begin at 9 a.m. on both Monday and Tuesday morning. The tournament will be a two-day, 36-hole event. Each player will play 18 holes each Monday and Tuesday.

The Individual Championship places will be determined by the individual, two-day combined scores. The Team Championship places will be determined based on the four, low aggregate scores for each round of play that is completed.

Awards will be presented to the top 25 individual places, as well as individuals from the top six teams. All awards will be presented at the conclusion of the tournament, unless a playoff for a team place is required.

The Tournament will feature live scoring through the BirdieFire.com online scoring service. A link to this scoring feature can be found at sdbp.org/golf.
