Ehrisman named Teacher of the Year

Last Wednesday, May 16, 2018 during the JK-12 graduation program, a full gymnasium of around 1,800 students erupted in applause when Travis Ehrisman’s name was announced for Tea Area School District Teacher of the Year.

Ehrisman is one of the district’s high school science teachers. He was nominated by students who have been impacted by his teaching and care. Ehrisman has been at the Tea Area School District for two years.

He graduated from Parkston, SD High School in 2002; he then attended South Dakota State University where he earned a bachelor of science degree in microbiology in 2009. He completed a one-year, accelerated teacher preparation program called Project SELECT through Black Hills State University in 2010. Ehrisman taught high school physical science and chemistry at West Central High School from 2012 to 2016. He and his wife, Christine, have been married for five years.

Tea Area Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Nebelsick Lowery said, “Tea Area is blessed to have many wonderful teachers. Mr. Ehrisman is very deserving of this award. He is truly committed to providing high-quality curriculum and innovative teaching. He is here for our students and works hard to prepare them for success in their future endeavors.”
