Teapot Days next week: Events scheduled June 13 - 16


The community of Tea is gearing up for the 22nd annual Teapot Days celebration to be held June 13 through 16, 2018.

The line-up of events remains very similar to years past. The schedule, as provided by the City of Tea, can be found on page 2 of this week’s newspaper.

Wednesday, June 13, 2018 will be the kick-off to Teapot Days with a CommuniTEA BBQ at Trinity Lutheran Church Parking Lot, at 335 W. 1st St., Tea. The event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be free hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks, and inflatables available for the kids.

Teapot Days activities pour in over the following days, starting Thursday, June 14, with the opening of the Mighty Thomas Carnival from 12-10 p.m. and the crowning of this year’s Ma and Pa Teapot, Shirley and Delmer Wetering, at 7 p.m. at the Community Hall.

Friday the Teafest Hot Rod Show & Shine will again take place at the Tea Athletic Complex. Registration begins at 5 p.m. Car enthusiasts can enter for a $10 fee, which includes a t-shirt. The event is free to the public from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with concessions and beverages by Squealers Smoke Shack, and music by Weston Frank.

The kids tractor pedal-pull will be Friday evening at the city park, registration starts there at 6:30 p.m. with the pull at 7 p.m. Tea Steakhouse will host an outdoor concert and, of course, the carnival rides will be running on Brian Street.

Saturday starts bright and early with pancakes and sausages from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at the community hall, followed by the Junior Achievement 5K Bacon Run with an 8 a.m. start at Tea Athletic Complex.

The highlight of the day for many, is the parade! The Parade will begin at 10 a.m. There is no pre-registration for the parade. Parade participants may go to the Tea Area High School between 8:00 and 9:45 a.m. on Saturday and the Tea Fire Dept. will be there to assist in line-up. The Parade Route will be: Start at Tea Area High School, East on Brian St., North on Cole Ave., East on St. Nicholas St., South on Main St., West on Charish St., North on Cole Ave., and end at Tea Area High School.

Tea City Park promises to be packed with food vendors, arts and crafts and live music, along with the TAPPS Bean Bag Tournament at 1 p.m., free swimming at the pool from 12:30-5 p.m., and the carnival from 12-10 p.m.

Head back to the community hall between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. for the teapot display and the Tea Lions Pork Feed from 5-7 p.m.

The Bikers and Boxers Poker Run will also take place on Saturday, as well as live music at the Sky Lounge’s street dance from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Finally, grab lawn chairs and blankets to watch Teapot Days end with a blast with fireworks at Tea City Park at 10:30 p.m.
