Officer Waller promoted to Sergeant


Officer Martin Waller was recently promoted to Sergeant within the Tea Police Department. Waller has been with the Tea Police Department since 2014, joining as night shift patrol, he then became SRO at Tea Area High School, and eventually moved to day shift. He is also the department’s firearms instructor.

Previous to his time in Tea, Waller worked for the Pierre Police Department, starting there in 2010. He did regular patrol before being assigned to investigation. While there, Waller also completed his SRO training in Buffalo, MN. He did those duties for two and half school years and was then accepted to Pierre SWAT team (Special Weapons and Tactics). He became a field training officer and fire arms instructor. Waller worked with the Police Cadet Explorers as an advisor, he also worked with the Pierre Hughes County Police Reserves program, which is regulated through the state.

Before becoming a police officer Waller was a member of the Air Force. He initially joined at the age of 19 as a Munitions Systems specialists in 2001. After 9-11 he served as military police, then later fully crossed trained into security forces. Waller served two tours overseas in support of Iraqi Freedom. He left active duty and joined the Air National Guard, where he served as a squad leader, supervising 12 people and also served as combat arms instructor.
