Top seeded girls to face West Central in State Championship game this Saturday

The Tea Area High School girls’ soccer program faced a familiar opponent in their semifinal play-off game on Saturday, Oct. 6.

“We play the Vermillion Tanagers twice each season,” said Titan head coach Mark Anderson. “They are a team we know well, coaches and players. It is a rivalry and the games are usually close.”

Earlier this season, the Titans defeated the Tanagers 1-0 in Vermillion and a couple weeks ago Tea Area was able to defeat them 4-0.

“They like to play a slower defensive game and get a lot of defenders back and keep teams out of the middle of the field,” said Anderson. “They have a senior goalkeeper Kasey Herbster who, up until this season, always frustrated us and kept her team in games by stopping us from scoring. This year we worked very hard on always playing fast and keeping possession of the ball.”

This Saturday’s semi-final game was a great example of playing fast and possessing the ball.
