Titans use second half surge to defeat SFC for Title
After trailing by three at the half in the State A Championship game, the Titans used a 21-6 third quarter performance to defeat the second ranked Chargers and solidify their spot as the No. 1 team in the state—claiming their second State A title in three years.
“The first half was sort of what I expected it to be. I liked the tempo of the game in the first half and the officials were letting us play,” said Titan head coach Chris Fechner. “We were late on a couple of closeouts, but I was pleased with the things we were doing.”
Noah Freidel hit a three late in the opening quarter to tie things up at 12 all; however, Dawson Mulder hit a three for the Chargers to give them a 15-12 advantage after one.
In the second, Colby Fechner opened the quarter for the Titans with a three pointer to tie things up once again. The back and forth battle continued until the Titans elevated their play in the second half.
“The second half was about asserting our defensive pressure and just competing,” said Coach Fechner.
The third quarter opened with back to back buckets by Justin Hohn and back to back threes by Kade Stearns and Hohn.
