Region Champs: Titans head to State this weekend

With several athletes finding success at the Region track meet held last Thursday, May 16 the Tea Area High School boys claimed the Region Championship team title for the first time since 2011.

“We are very proud of the athletes and how they competed at the Region. This group has been one of the deepest teams we’ve had in a number of years and it took contributions from many athletes to accomplish this feat,” said Titan head coach Ryan Decker. “Based on our success at the Conference Meet, we felt going into the Region that we had a good chance of competing for the title.”

At Regions, the Titans had a number of athletes turn in great performances and step up to score for the team.

“Whether it was guys giving up individual events to provide points in relays, or guys setting personal records to pick up middle places, we were very proud of how well they competed, which is what you need to win in a tough region like ours, ” added Decker.

The Titan boys had two individual Region Champions with Braden Beach capturing the Region title in the long jump, jumping a distance of 21’10.5”. This mark gives him the second best jump in Class A headed into the State A Meet this weekend. Beach earned third place in the triple jump at Regions, jumping a distance of 40’1” in the event.

Also claiming the Region title in the pole vault event was Ean Minnaert who cleared 9’ during the Region finals held Wednesday, May 15 at Tea. This marks a personal best for Minnaert. He will be competing in the event at State.

Other highlights at Regions for the Titan boys were a second place finish by Trevor Cox in the 300 meter hurdles. Cox finished with a time of 41.58 in the event, qualifying him for State. Fellow Titan, Isaac Price, took seventh in the 300 meter finals, clocking a time of 46.91 seconds.
