Flying high

Friday afternoon the sky in Tea was dotted with colorful kites — not just ordinary kites — giant inflatable kites.

You may recall an article last year that introduced you to Tea resident John Pelczynski, whose hobby is flying these incredible kites.

Pelczynski organized Friday’s “Preview Fly” in an effort to show the people of Tea and Tea Park and Rec what a kite festival would look like for the community. Pelczynski said there were five fliers at the Tea Athletic Complex on Friday with 12 kites in the sky. He and his kite flying friends spent the day showing off their colorful, enormous kites. The other fliers were from North Dakota, Illinois, Iowa and South Dakota.

Pelczynski would like to get an annual Kite Festival organized in Tea the end of July or first part of August. He said during a festival fliers do fun activities and fly kites the whole day.
