Almost Home Canine rescue seeks adoptive families

Come out to O’Toole’s Bar July 27 for fun, meet some dogs and help dogs in need.

O’Toole’s will host a fundraiser for Almost Home Canine Rescue. The rescue will have adoptable dogs available. The bar is hosting a 12-team volleyball tournament where some of the proceeds will go toward the rescue.

Katie Day, rescue board president, said they will also be accepting donations of NutriSource or Pro Plan dog, puppy, cat and kitten food.

“We try to keep it to just those two foods because when you start an animal on one you don’t want to have to change cause you have an upset belly,” she said.

Besides food, they will also take puppy pads, toys, treats and monetary donations. The adoption fees they charge do not cover the amount of money that goes into the animals for things like vet visits.

Day notes, however, that the Tea Veterinary Clinic has been an excellent partner.

“Tea Vet Clinic is very good to us. We couldn’t do it without them,” she said.

Almost Home Canine Rescue got its start in Madison and was reestablished in 2018 in Sioux Falls. Day said even though they are based in Sioux Falls now, they will continue to assist the Madison Animal Shelter.

While the rescue is primarily for dogs, they also help cats. When they get an animal, they are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and started on heartworm and flea and tick preventatives before being put into a foster home.
