District breaks ground on CTE/bus barn building

The Aug. 12 meeting started with a groundbreaking at the high school for the new CTE and bus barn building.
Tea Area school board received updates on construction progress on Venture Elementary, Frontier Elementary and the CTE building at the high school.
Operations manager Wayne Larsen updated the board on construction progress at Venture. Progress is changing daily at the school. Teachers are moving into their classrooms as workers finish touch-up paint in the classrooms. The wood floor is in the gym, however, it will not be finished until September.
The city has been working on paving Main Street and Seventh Street in front of the school. Work on the school continues as the district readies for open house Aug. 15 and then the first day of school Aug. 20.
At Frontier, they continue to work to get the classrooms ready for the first day of school. Larsen thinks they are in line to be ready by Aug. 20. The band room and gym will not be ready until later this fall.
For the high school project, besides the groundbreaking, they have put up a fence for erosion control. Larsen thought dirtwork would start this week.
The board had a new concrete bid for $113,100 from First Dakota. Board member Tara Johanneson questioned if the floating floor was financially the best thing for the district. Larsen did not think they were on the same page when talking about what a floating floor is. He noted that the bus wash would have 7-inch thick concrete. The board approved the concrete bid with Johanneson being the single nay vote.
