Samantha and Joshua Berg have taken an old family recipe and are sharing it with the world in hopes to provide a better life for their own family. The Berg family has created Cosmic Creations as a way to share their all natural, low ingredient products.

Samantha and Joshua Berg met as freshman in high school and have been building a life together since. After graduation in 2011, the couple got married and are raising three children together with one on the way. Enjoying the family time has led the Berg’s to find ways to make money together and Cosmic Creations was formed.

Cosmic Creations will focus on a wide variety of products under one name.

“Cosmic Creations name and the space theme was chosen because we didn’t want something limited or targeted towards just one product as we sell a range of things and plan to continue to add more over time,” said Cosmic Creations owner, Samantha Berg.

One side of the business will focus on canned goods, herbs, herbal tinctures, massage creams, and homeopathic remedies, the other focuses on the family’s secret family recipe for caramel corn.

“Whether you’re buying ‘Cosmic Creations Herbal Massage Cream’ or ‘Cosmic Creations Caramel Corn’ it’s easy to recognize our product and that it is all guaranteed to be out of this world,” she said.

For the past 150 years, Joshua’s maternal family has gathered and shared the caramel corn recipe with each other.

“The caramel corn has been made for over 150 years for Christmas, along with the family’s famous divinity. We know for sure that this recipe is the same as his great-great grandmother, but that’s as far back because it has never been written down,” Berg said.

Because the family does not feel the need to write it down, they gather often to learn the recipe and make sure everyone learns the right techniques.

“When it’s time for the next generation to learn, the people in the family that know how to make it get together and make it with the newer generation over and over until they’ve got it memorized and can do it all by eye, by themselves,” she said.

Having a family recipe alone sets Cosmic Creations apart from most competitors, but the ingredients are where the Berg family feels most of the magic comes from.

“We make all our popcorn in small batches just like grandma which gives an incomparable quality control, and we use top ingredients that you can pronounce. Pure cane sugar, butter, water, and non-GMO Amish grown popcorn with no artificial flavors or colors like the nine ingredients in Cracker Jack or 13 in Crunch N Munch,” she said.

Finding locally sourced products is important to the couple as they want everyone around them to grow with the company.

“Most of the things we offer we have learned to make from our own family and usually come from our garden, friends, or are local foraged. It’s all things we’ve made for friends and family for years, but now that we have three little kids, we thought we’d try to make a business out of it to hopefully spend more time with them,” Berg said.

The family has made their way from local farmers markets to wholesale locations throughout the area.

“We are making our way into the Tea community, and our first stop was the Makers Exchange. With their location right off the interstate, and a ton of other vendors, it’s a great place to shop for unique items and goodies you can’t find in other stores,” she said.

Joining the Tea community is helping their small business grow each day.

“We are working to continue to grow into more wholesale locations as we want everyone to enjoy the delicious old fashioned caramel corn that we’ve always grown up with,” Berg said.
