The Tea City Council met May 19 and approved a conditional use permit that had expired. The council held a public hearing on the conditional use permit at 715 E. Figzel Court for an automotive repair facility. Community development director Albert Schmidt said a CUP was approved for the same property over a year ago but since it lapsed they have to reapply.
City administrator Justin Weiland noted that the state rejected a liquor license application for Titans Tavern for the volleyball court property due to an unused alley separating the property from the Titans Tavern building lot. As a solution, the council approved granting temporary one-day licenses for volleyball nights and some Friday and Saturdays through October.
The council awarded the bid from T&R Contracting, Inc. for the asphalt-concrete resurfacing project on Heritage Parkway for $1,765,352. The bid was to resurface the northbound and southbound lanes in 2025. HDR engineer Ben Scholtz expects the duration for each set of lanes to take about a month depending on weather. Mayor Casey Voelker noted they had budgeted $1.1 million already and that there was at least $250,000 left in the street maintenance fund that could be used for this project. The council approved the building and site plan at 1501 E. Mindy St. for a 24-foot-by-120-foot storage building and the school bus barn building plan at 500 E. Brian St.
They also approved the plats for lot 1, block 7, Serenity Park Addition, track 1 Trevan Addition and lots 1-3, block 1 and lots 1-3, block 2, Hascall Addition.
They also approved the hiring of Hunter Wilson for seasonal maintenance at $17.50 per hour and Samantha Ariasola as full-time police officer at $31.72 per hour.
The council approved the pay application from D & G Concrete Construction for gravel and paving work on the 85th Street project for $800,014.30.
They approved the agreement for a property conveyance for the 85th Street interchange. The property was a sliver of the city water tower property and the roadway does not encroach on the water tower.
The council approved the quit claim deed for lot 1, block 1, High Pointe Addition for the lift station.
They approved a 2024 end of year cash transfer.
Weiland noted they will have a capital improvement work session on June 30. They will also have a joint meeting with planning and zoning on Aug. 4 and a public meeting on Aug. 5 with Confluence.
The council went into executive session at 6:43 p.m.
