The Tea City Council met Sept. 8 and held a first reading on an ordinance rezoning part of lot 1B of the Tempo Addition from NRC to PD (planned development) and amending the official zoning map.
Community development director Albert Schmidt said the planning commission recommends approval. He noted they held a neighborhood meeting on site with about six residents and the developer. He said they want to work with neighbors and the developer to work out some tweaks before the second reading at the Sept. 22 city council meeting.
One resident expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to meet with the developer. She did not support the concept of storage sheds and had concerns about the height of the buildings and people living in them.
No action was taken since this was the first reading.
Council members Lynn DeYoung and Ruby Zuraff were absent.
Zuraff was appointed to serve on the library board.
The council held a public hearing for a conditional use permit for a hair salon.
The hair salon will run out of a home at 320 W. Apple St. Schmidt said they had one email in support of the permit and no communication against the application. The council approved the CUP.
The council also approved a new retail on-off sale wine and cider license for Christine Todd LLC at 1725 Mindy St.Â
They approved the plat for tracts 2A and 2B of Stuntebeck’s Addition and the anniversary step increase for Andres Thomas in the street maintenance department.
The council heard from one resident who expressed her unease driving in Tea because she has been repeatedly pulled over by one police officer. Mayor Casey Voelker noted they pride themselves on having a good police department but encouraged her to fill out a complaint form on the website for the police chief to look into her concerns.
