Residents and visitors enjoyed four days of summer fun as Teapot Days 2026 brought the community together June 17-20 for one of Tea’s most anticipated annual celebrations.
The festivities began Wednesday evening with the CommuniTEA Picnic, setting the tone for a fun-filled week. A large crowd attended the picnic, sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church. Despite a rain shower that necessitated moving the event indoors, approximately 600 people were served. Entertainment was provided by Landon Weis. During the evening, the 2025 Ma and Pa Teapot, Margaret and Wayne Larsen, crowned this year’s honorees, Arlin and Joann Olson. Joann’s father, George Snyder, was the first Pa Teapot. Visitors also had the opportunity to explore displays from various community organizations and service providers set up in the parking lot. Photos from the event can be found on page 4.
Throughout the Teapot Days celebration, Tea City Park served as a hub of activity as families enjoyed carnival rides, food vendors, live music, sporting events and community gatherings. Children tested their strength during the Dakota Kids Pedal Pull, while runners and walkers took part in the Junior Achievement 5K Bacon Run/Walk on Saturday morning.
One of the weekend’s biggest attractions was the annual Teapot Days Parade on Saturday, which drew large crowds along Main Avenue as local organizations, businesses, community groups and area residents showcased their creativity and community pride. Serving as parade marshal was Oliver “Buck” Boterman, a longtime Tea resident who has called the community home for more than 60 years. Boterman and his wife, Lorna, raised five children — Lori, Shelli, Jeff, Bill and Bonnie — and he spent 28 years working for the South Dakota Air National Guard.
Car enthusiasts gathered for the TeaFest Show & Shine on Friday night (photos on page 5), while sports fans enjoyed local baseball action throughout the weekend. The Tea Aquatics Complex also welcomed swimmers during a free swim event Saturday afternoon. The carnival midway remained busy throughout the weekend as families enjoyed rides, games and treats.
Live entertainment kept the celebration going well into the evening. The festivities concluded with a fireworks display over Tea City Park. More photos from the Teapot Days parade can be found on page 9 & 10.
