Dollar Fresh now open in Tea

Tea Dollar Fresh, located at 725 E. 1st Street, opened last Friday.

Tea is one of the first communities in the state to have a Dollar Fresh Store. Harrisburg is the other community to have the new store, brought to communities by Hy-Vee, Inc.

According to Hy-Vee, Dollar Fresh locations are designed to offer customers in smaller communities a fresh, new product selection at low prices.

The new store in Tea is managed by Travis Mulder of Lennox. Mulder brings 12 years of experience in the grocery industry to his new position as store manager.

The Tea Dollar Fresh store is approximately 27,300 square feet and will offer a full selection of grocery items, a bakery section with a variety of goods, a Wall of Value, take-and-heat home meal offerings, roughly 525 specialty products and 195 produce items, plus a wine and spirits section. The store also will carry footwear and Joe Fresh brand clothing. The Dollar Fresh locations (Tea and Harrisburg) will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, and will carry approximately 10,500 items.

Mulder said that he thinks customers will notice the competitive prices.

“There’s no games or gimmicks,” Mulder said, “Everything is just priced right daily.”

He added that the inventory will change often as well, one of the things that inspired the store’s name — “fresh” inventory and new products coming all the time.

Tea’s Dollar Fresh store will employee 30 people in the community and Mulder said they do have a few part-time positions open. If people are interested, applications are available online.

“We’re excited to be part of the community,” said Mulder. “Our store is meant to be more hometown and we’re here for the residents of Tea.”
