Superintendent Jennifer Lowery has been named South Dakota Superintendent of the Year.

Lowery has been Tea Area’s superintendent for 11 years and has been in education for 18 years.

School board president Kristen Daggett appreciates the hard work Lowery puts into the district.

“The Tea Area School Board is extremely proud of Dr. Lowery. This honor is a testament to the 110 percent she puts in every day to raise the bar for excellence in education to our students, teachers and community. I am honored to work with her, and she is a true blessing to the district,” Daggett said.

Lowery has been a leader in continuous school improvement in the district.

“Dr. Lowery is truly one-of-a-kind, and we are lucky to have her captaining the Tea Area School District’s ship. She has a genuine passion for education which is demonstrated through her dedication not only to the students, staff and families of the TASD, but also through her mentorship of other administrators, outreach in educational organizations, teaching for local universities and continuing to build the reputation of the TASD at the regional, state and national levels,” board member Tara Johanneson said. “Dr. Lowery doesn’t believe in stagnation and is always researching ways to improve herself, our district and everyone around her.”

Lowery introduced a student representative on the school board in 2020.

“Dr. Lowery has changed Tea Area School District during her tenure as superintendent for the good of the students. It is because of her commitment toward every student, graduate or not, that she has earned this high distinction,” student board member Ben Daggett said.

She has been a leader for the district as it continues to grow.

“It is great to have a leader that sets goals and works so hard to achieve them and continues to raise the quality of education in the Tea Area School District,” board member Conrad Pick said.

“I am very impressed with Dr. Lowery’s work ethic, professionalism and dedication to improving our schools. Her leadership has guided this district to higher standards and without question she has helped make this a better place. We are truly blessed to have her as our superintendent,” board member Jason Bennett said.

“Dr. Lowery’s attention to detail and dedication to the students and staff in the Tea Area School District is amazing. She strives to ensure our schools are safe and our district is always pushing forward even through the constant growth in Tea,” board member Chad Meyer said.
