Larson inducted into Hardrock Club Hall of Fame


South Dakota Mines, in collaboration with the Hardrock Club, proudly announced the distinguished individuals and teams that have been recently inducted into the esteemed Hardrock Club Hall of Fame. The class of 2023 was officially inducted into the Hall of Fame during the homecoming weekend celebration, which took place on Saturday, Sept. 16, just before the thrilling football game against Colorado Mesa in which South Dakota Mines fell, 38-30.

Among those inducted was Wayne Larsen from Tea. Larsen’s journey to the Hall of Fame began in 1972 when he joined the football team as a tight end. Originally from Colome, South Dakota, Larsen wasted no time in leaving his mark on the field. His sophomore season saw him earn All-District 12 and All-SDIC honors, showcasing his exceptional talent. During that remarkable season, he led the team with 28 receptions, accumulating an impressive 385 yards and scoring four touchdowns.

Larsen continued to shine in his junior year, recording 24 receptions, 351 yards, and three touchdowns. His final season with the team saw him contribute significantly with 19 receptions, 248 yards, and two touchdowns. Wayne Larsen’s outstanding performance played a pivotal role in guiding the program to two SDIC championships and an impressive 11-6-1 record in his last two seasons.

The Hall of Fame banquet took place on Saturday, Sept. 16 prior to the football game against Colorado Mesa. The nominees were further honored at halftime of the game.
