The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners, along with members of the South Dakota Second Judicial Circuit, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Lincoln County Justice Center in Canton on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
As Lincoln County continues to grow, the need for additional courtroom space has become evident. The new Justice Center will eventually house all court operations for Lincoln County.
The 40-acre campus, located northwest of Highway 18 and North West Street in Canton, will address both civil and criminal actions within the county.
The $54.8 million facility will include an arraignment hearing room on the ground floor, three courtrooms and a hearing room on the second floor, office space, and a jury assembly room.
There will also be empty shell space reserved for future expansion.
The project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2026.
