Local woman opens consignment shop

After a 45-minute drive to northwest Iowa to shop for clothes for her three children, Cassandra Rollman realized the Tea area could use a consignment clothing store.

“I like shopping consignment, thrifting and so I know there were two consignment stores in Rock Valley, Iowa, so I drove 45 minutes and while I was driving, I thought why don’t we have somewhere closer,” she said. “It was recognizing that we could definitely use a clothing for families that are on a budget.”

Rollman owned and operated Never Better Cleaning in Tea for just under five years prior to opening Quality Shoppe in Harrisburg this fall. When she opened Never Better Cleaning pre-Covid, she had teams of cleaners. Covid caused her to downsize to just her and another person and operated that way for a number of years. Realizing that was a physically demanding job and that she could not do that forever, she closed that business and was looking for something new.

Being a detailed person, she thought she could use that in a new business. After doing some demographic assessments, she decided that the area could use a consignment store.

After looking for spaces in Tea, the was unable to find something large enough or in her price range. She found a home for Quality Shoppe at 220 S. Cliff Ave. in Harrisburg. The space was most recently a boutique in 2019 and was a gym before that.

“It was smaller than what I wanted initially square footage-wise, however, it was already set up to be a clothing store. It already had the dressing rooms and everything like that because it was a boutique before,” Rollman said.

To move in, she had to build the front countertops, paint, put dressing room doors on and buy all the clothing racks.

While Rollman is not particular on name brands, they are looking for quality items that do not have holes, stains, missing buttons or looks worn when you hold it up.

They take clothing from infant up to XXXXL in men’s, women’s and children. They take shoes, coats, hats, gloves, tops and bottoms. They do not accept undergarments, swimsuits, maternity, used jewelry, hats, scarves, belts or home decor.

Quality Shoppe accepts consignments on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They operate as a true consignment store where they select from the items a consignor brought in, price it and if it sells, the consignor gets a percentage of the sale.

In addition to consigned clothing items, they also have a couple of vendors who have handcrafted items for sale.

Quality Shoppe has eight employees. The shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They can be found on Facebook, Instagram and on their website: www.qualityshoppe.online.
