Music in our Schools Month

The National Association for Music Education celebrates March as Music in our Schools Month.

The Tea Area Middle School bands and choirs will be presenting a concert on Tuesday, March 19 at Tea Area High School at 6:30 p.m. as part of the month long celebration. 

This concert will feature selections from the 6th grade band and choir, 7th grade band and choir, and 8th grade band and choir. The concert will be directed by Ellie Whitehead and Mary Beth Sutton. 

The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Large Group Contest will be held at Memorial Middle School in Sioux Falls on Friday, Apr. 12. 

On March 6, nominated choir and band students joined fifteen other schools at Brandon Valley for the 30th Celebration of Music Event.

Tea choir students were:  Haley Knodel, Aubrey Nebelsick, Jannah Ricaldi, Ben Will, Brennan Pigott and RyLee Young.

The guest director for choir was Jennifer Spencer.

Tea Area band students were: Eliam Bullis, Zaiden Johnson, Thiik Lual, Bella Preheim, Kade VanDePol.  Mary Goheen guest directed the band. 

The South Dakota Music Educator’s Association held the 25th annual Middle School All State Concert Band on March 1 and 2 in Mitchell, SD. 

The 15 students representing Tea Area at the All State Concert are pictured above and include, from left to right, back row: Luke Wharton, Isaac Burrack, Beau Wranek, Kaelee Taylor, Kelsey Kramer, Lily Graham, Ada Klemish, National Composer and Honor Band Guest Director and National composer Randall Standridge and Festival Band guest director Dr. Larry Petersen; front row:  Andrew Schmidt, Dawson Lowery, Landon Biddle, Carly Corner, Haley Knodel, Kapri Drewes and Natalie Hyronimus.  

Beau Wranek (pictured above) was also recognized at the All State Concert as one of only twelve students receiving a three year award.
