Newborg, Andersen perform strong at Sanford Series golf event
Keeton Newborg and Derek Andersen placed 2nd and 4th respectively at the Sanford Series event that was held out in Rapid City on Monday, July 10 and Tuesday, July 11. The meet featured the top golfers in the State.
Newborg, who will be a senior at Tea Area High School this fall, finished with a two-day total of 150, shooting a 75 on the front nine and a 75 on the back. He shot four birdies on the two-day stretch. His score earned him second place, just behind Carter Peterson of Sioux Falls who finished with a two-day total of 145.
Andersen, who will be a junior at TAHS this fall, finished fourth shooting a two-day total of 154. Andersen shot a 78 on day one and a 76 on day two. Andersen also recorded four birdies on the two-day stretch.
Newborg now leaves for Nationals this Friday, July 14. Nationals will be held at the PGA Headquarters in Frisco, Texas, July 17-19.
This invite-only tournament field will be made up of the top high school golfers from across the country.
Newborg qualified by winning the Individual State Championship title last fall.
