Region Champs: Titans headed to State



With four golfers finishing in the top 20 at the Region 2A Golf Tournament, the Tea Area High School golf team claimed the Region Championship title, qualifying the entire team for the State A Tournament to be held in Madison, Oct. 4-5.

Leading the Titans at Regions was Keeton Newborg who shot a 77 on the day to capture third place honors. Eric Munson finished in tenth place with a score of 82, Eddie Unruh captured 14th scoring an 82 as well, and Derek Anderson shot an 85 to take 18th place. Also competing for the Titans was Brady Sabers who shot a 94, taking 32nd among the 45 golfers. The Titans finished with 326 team points, edging out Vermillion for the Region title. Vermillion finished with 327 team points. West Central took third with 329 points.

Winning the Region individual title was West Central’s Trey Even who shot a 75 on the day, he won the tie-breaker with Kaleb Jost from Sioux Falls Christian to win.

At Regions, 45 golfers competed for the right to go to the State A Tournament to be held in Madison on Oct. 4 and 5. Action begins in Madison for the State Tournament at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 4. The tournament will be a two-day, 36-hole event. Each contestant is scheduled to play 18 holes each Monday and Tuesday.

The Individual Championship places will be determined by individual, two-day combined scores.

Scores from Region Meets will be used to determine pairings and starting times for the first round of Championship play.
