SoDak 16 BoundTitan girls defeat EPJ to advance

On Thursday, Feb. 22 the Tea Area High School girls’ basketball team faced off against Elk Point Jefferson in the second round of Region 4A playoff action. The Titans built up an early 26-15 lead but the Huskies managed to chip away making the final minutes interesting. Thanks to critical free throws, the Titans hung on for the 56-51 victory to advance to the SoDak 16. 

Tea Area, seeded sixth in the SoDak 16 rankings, will take their 18-4 record on the road this Thursday, Feb. 29 facing off against 11th ranked Mobridge-Pollock who sits at 17-4 on the season. The two teams will play at Huron at 5:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the State A Tournament schedule for March 7-9 in Brookings. 

Against Elk Point Jefferson, Katie Vasecka led the team in scoring with 25 points. She also had eight rebounds, six assists and two steals. Mara Grant finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, one assists and two steals. Haidyn West was also in double figures on the night, scoring ten points. She also had three assists. Miah Weber and Ellie Clayberg each had three points in the win.
