The Tea Area High School girls golf team will open its 2026 season April 16 at Spring Creek Golf Course, with the Titans looking to build on a successful first season in Class AA under third-year head coach Nick Berg.
Berg said last season gave the program confidence competing at a higher classification level.
“We had a successful first year competing in the AA class of girls golf,” Berg said. “We had multiple girls that competed for placing at numerous events.”
The Titans also sent three golfers to the state tournament at Prairie Green Golf Course last season.
“We had three state qualifiers that competed at Prairie Green Golf Course — Abigail Munson, Taylor Lowe and Kenna Vavra,” Berg said.
Tea Area graduated two seniors from last year’s squad, Abigail Munson and Elizabeth Mehlbrech.
“Their leadership will certainly be missed this season,” Berg said.
Returning varsity golfers include Taylor Lowe, Kenna Vavra and Cami Powell, giving the Titans an experienced foundation despite an otherwise young roster.
“This year’s team is shaping up to be an exciting one as a young and motivated squad prepares for the season,” Berg said. “While the team may lack extensive varsity experience, with three varsity returners, it more than makes up for it with enthusiasm, work ethic and strong desire to compete.”
Berg said several younger players are already competing for varsity opportunities.
“There are a number of underclassmen who are eager to prove themselves at the varsity level,” he said.
Among the team’s early storylines will be how quickly younger players develop into larger roles.
“As a young team, we are excited to see how the underclassmen show early signs of steady improvement and willingness to learn and step into more leadership roles,” Berg said.
Tea Area expects strong competition throughout the season in Class AA.
“There is an abundance of great competition from all of schools that we will compete with this year,” Berg said.
For the Titans to climb the AA standings, Berg said leadership and consistency from returning players will be critical.
“We will need our returning varsity golfers to continue to grow and lead with consistency and eagerness to compete at a high level,” Berg said.
He believes the group has the talent to compete at a high level if progress continues.
“We have a great group of girls who, if we stay focused and keep improving, have a real shot at making a run at the AA ranks,” Berg said.
Berg expects Tea Area to be competitive throughout the spring.
“This team is up to the challenge, and we are going to have girls competing to be medalists at every meet,” he said. “We have a great group, and I am excited to see all that they are going to accomplish as a team.”
Assistant coach Drew Weber joins Berg on staff this season.
The Tea Area roster includes returning varsity golfers Taylor Lowe, Kenna Vavra and Cami Powell, along with Ava Andersen, Skylynn Broesder, Kinsley Gass, Mikayla Berg, Rylee Loe, Haley Knodel, Kemry Lauck, Bella Jensen, Axyl Henricksen, Blake Achtenberg and Palmer Benning.
Following their Apr. 16 match, Tea Area is scheduled to compete April 24 against Brandon Valley High School as the season gets underway.
