Tea Area High School girls’ soccer

The Tea Area High School girls soccer team is ready to begin another season, and the Titans will open the 2026 campaign with a two-day road trip West River.

Tea Area will travel to Spearfish on Friday, Aug. 14, to take on the Spearfish Spartans before heading to Sturgis on Saturday for a match-up with the Sturgis Brown Scoopers.

The varsity Titans will play Spearfish at 6 p.m. Mountain Time Friday, Aug. 14 at the Black Hills Power Sports Complex. The junior varsity team will meet at 4 p.m. MT.

The Titans will then travel to Sturgis for Saturday’s games. The JV team will take the field at 9 a.m. MT, followed by the varsity match-up at 11 a.m. MT at the City Soccer Complex’s Woodle Field.

The Titans are led by head coach Jasmin Sumic, with Curt Hauff and Kelly Kleekamp serving as assistant coaches.

Tea Area enters the season with a varsity roster featuring a mixture of experienced upperclassmen and younger players.

Among the returning veterans are seniors Sydney Stahlecker and Cate Giles. Stahlecker will play in the midfield, while Giles returns as a defender.

The junior class includes Nola Terveen, Alayna Mann, Emilee Budahl, Josie Kuipers, Layla Stockwell and Abigail Hilleson. Mann is listed as a forward, while Budahl and Kuipers will contribute in the midfield and Hilleson returns to the roster as a junior.

The Titans also have a large group of sophomores and freshmen expected to contribute.

Sophomores include goalkeeper Brookelyn Youngstrom, Brekkyn Quigley, Ada Klemisch and Galilea Prieto, while freshmen on the varsity roster include Janessa Kuipers, Taylor Davis, Emma Hilleson, Ava Otten, McKinley Mayer and Katie Hauff. The varsity roster also includes eighth-grader Blaire Mann.

Young players will have an opportunity to gain valuable experience on the junior varsity roster as well. The JV squad includes players from seventh through 10th grade, including Natalie Bymers, Brekkyn Quigley, Karlie Roeber, Angelica Rosario Diaz, Samantha Klemisch, NiaEmani Sabit, Paige Arp, Emma Hilleson, Juliana Farinacci, Sophie McCormack, Genesis Morales, Molly Wharton, Allison Ollerich, Charlee Wehrspann, Taylor Roemen, Baya Rentschler, Aliyah Steveson, Lela Kamps, Norah Nielson and Anna Robinson.

After the opening weekend in the Black Hills, the Titans will return home Thursday, Aug. 20, for their first home match of the season against Brookings. The varsity contest is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Tea Area High School’s Titan Stadium.

Tea Area will then travel to Harrisburg on Aug. 22 and Yankton on Aug. 25 before returning home Sept. 1 to host Sioux Falls Roosevelt.

The September schedule includes several challenging match-ups, with the Titans facing Aberdeen Central (Sept. 5), Watertown (Sept. 8), Brandon Valley (Sept. 10), Pierre T.F. Riggs (Sept. 15), Sioux Falls Washington (Sept. 17), Sioux Falls Jefferson (Sept. 22), Huron (Sept. 26) and Mitchell (Sept. 29).

The first round of playoff action is scheduled for Oct. 6, with quarterfinals slated for Oct. 10 and semifinals on Oct. 13. The state tournament is scheduled for Oct. 17 in Watertown.
